The Mackinac County Children’s Toy Drive has been active for the past 16 years
working directly with the Department of Human Services to help those families
that need a little help during the holidays.
The toy drive has served more than 600 people this year, which was down slightly
from last year. Each family also receives not only a food basket from Kiwanis
consisting of a turkey dinner but also commodities to help them out a little more.
Each year during the many fundraisers which consist of Christmas in July with a
spaghetti dinner, silent auction, and bake sale, a pancake breakfast, and a bake
and sub sale along with several donations coming in from local area businesses
and individuals, the toy drive is able to raise between $10,000 and $13,000 per
year to buy new toys, clothing, and food for the local families.
Several volunteers help out with bake sale goods, time, or monetary donations.
Below are some of the regular volunteers that have helped out consistently at each
of the fundraisers through the years.
