Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)



The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of persons 60 years or older by supplementing their diets with nutritious United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodity foods. Eligible households receive a monthly distribution of food products, which may include cheese, canned meat, plant-based protein, vegetables, fruits, grains, cereals and juices.


Eligibility

  • 60 Years of Age and Older
  • Households income at or below 130% of federal poverty guidelines
  • Income may not be more than:
  • $1,396 per month for a household of one, or
  • $1,888 a month for a household of two
  • Call for information about larger households


Requirements

  • Knowledge or Proof of All Household Gross Income
  • Knowledge of Household Demographics (Household Size, Race, Ethnicity, etc.)
  • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate, State ID, Drivers’ License, and/ or other legal forms)
  • Proof of Residency (Utility Bills, Drivers’ License, State ID, Home Ownership or Rental Agreements, and/ or other legal forms)


Registration Process

  • Provide all required documents and information (see Requirements)
  • An application must be completed and approved in order to participate in the program.
  • Registration can be completed on the day of the distribution

Day of Distribution

  • Registered clients must supply an Agency ID (Pink Card or White Postcard) and/ or State ID or Driver’s License (Note: Interested participants who are not registered please see Requirements and Registration Process section on how to become registered)
  • Registered clients who are not able to pick up their box may have a designated proxy pick-up on their behalf


Best Practices

Food packages can be 50 pounds or more in weight, to help make it easier to transport some recommended practices include:

  • Pre-plan a mode of transportation
  • Motorized Vehicle (personal, friend, family, agency based, and/or other services)
  • Take the Bus
  • Other methods of travel (walk, wheel, cycle, etc.)
  • Pre-plan a method to transport the food package
  • Bring a cart
  • Bring extra bags
  • Bring someone to help get the food home or other assistive equipment
